Which Size Should I Choose?
As a general guide, T hinges should measure approximately half to two-thirds of the width of the door or gate.
6" and 9" hinges are particularly suited to:
- Cupboard doors
- Cabinets
- Small doors
- Smaller joinery projects
12", 15", 18" and 24" hinges are particularly suited to:
- Pine and oak doors
- Ledge and brace doors
- Cottage-style doors
- Traditional timber doors
- Shed and outbuilding doors
- Timber gates
For heavier or wider doors and gates, a longer hinge can provide greater support across the width.
270° Opening
The hinge arm rotates through approximately 270 degrees, allowing the butt to be fixed to the inside of the jamb if preferred. This provides additional flexibility when installing the hinges on traditional doors, gates and joinery.
Traditional Pewter Finish
Each hinge is hand finished in pewter, creating a characterful aged appearance that complements traditional timber doors and period-style interiors.
Unlike a uniform modern finish, the pewter effect is designed to retain the handmade character of the wrought iron beneath. Subtle variations in tone, texture and surface appearance may therefore occur from one hinge to another.
The muted metallic tones make pewter particularly well suited to oak, pine and other natural timbers, as well as traditional, rustic and cottage-style interiors.
Internal & External Use
These hinges are ideally suited to internal applications and can also be used externally when appropriately maintained.
When used outside, the wrought iron will be exposed to rain, moisture and changing weather conditions. To preserve the appearance of the hinges and protect the underlying iron, regular inspection and maintenance with a suitable protective coating is recommended.
If the protective finish becomes damaged or is allowed to deteriorate, surface oxidation and rust may develop. The frequency of maintenance will depend on the location and level of exposure to the elements.
